FAQs
Our reputation is built on the fact that we are a local, family run business. Ben grew up in the lovely village of Binfield and still lives there today. We do a huge amount of work in the village, and frankly, you don't get that kind of repeat business in a small community unless you are trustworthy and dependable.
Most people in Binfield know us. Our family, friends, and neighbours are all here, so we aren’t a company that is going to "up sticks" and leave a customer in the lurch. We are honest and reliable in an industry where, unfortunately, that isn't always the case. Our name is attached to everything we do, and we take that very seriously.
We believe the quality of our works speaks for itself. But this is a question we get asked a lot. We get it, people need an 'idea' of how we price our projects. So, we believe in quality and value for money. We're a bit old school - an honest day's work for an honest day's pay, so you will likely find that our quotes sit somewhere in the middle.
We are not the cheapest, and there are clear and obvious reasons why some "builders" might "appear" cheaper than us on paper. However, we often find that people who go for the lowest price end up coming to us later to fix the issues. Our ultimate objective is to provide a fair price for a premium finish. We deliver exactly what you want and need, without cutting corners. The best thing to do is check out our work - it is premium quality that you’ll be proud of, but you will love telling people what great value it was too.
Yes, we’re proud to say that we have a solid, trusted core team that has worked together for over 20 years. When you choose Edge Construction, you’re getting us!
Our Core Team Building is our speciality and our strength. We never subcontract "our work" - the actual building and structural construction. Because we’ve worked together for years, we operate like a well-oiled machine. This means you’ll see the same familiar faces on-site every day, which helps maintain a high level of accountability and consistent quality.
Our Trusted Specialists For certain specialist tasks - such as piling, plumbing, or electrical work - we use a small, hand-picked group of subcontractors. These are professionals we have known and trusted for many years; they are essentially an extension of the Edge Construction family. We manage them closely and keep you completely in the loop so you always know who is on-site and what they are doing.
A Pragmatic Partnership If you have your own connections - perhaps a specific electrician or plumber you’ve used for years - we are very pragmatic. We’re happy to discuss incorporating your tradespeople into the project, provided their work meets our high standards for quality and safety. Building projects are a partnership, and we’re always open to a conversation about what works best for you.
We work on a straightforward staged payment basis to keep things transparent and manageable.
We take an initial deposit to confirm your quote and secure your project in our schedule. From there, we agree staged payments with you that align with key milestones throughout the build. This means you only pay as work progresses and you can see exactly what you're paying for at each stage.
We have a reputation for being flexible and accommodating, and we're always happy to discuss a payment structure that works for your budget and circumstances. Final payment is due on completion of the work.
We provide clear invoices and accept payment by bank transfer.
Never trust a builder who can start tomorrow! We stay busy because we don’t take on more work than we can manage properly. It is always best to get in touch early to secure a slot. We try to be flexible, and if a project elsewhere is delayed by planning permission, we do prioritise customers who are ready to proceed. If you have to wait a few months, we promise the quality of our work will make it worth it.
Regarding durations, we work with you to set a realistic timeframe. As a guide, a single storey extension usually takes 8 to 16 weeks, while a double storey can take 14 to 26 weeks. We won't over promise. Building is a partnership; if we discover something unexpected or if you decide to change the plan, we stay flexible and keep you informed every step of the way.
Whether you should move out during your renovation with Edge Construction depends largely on the scale and complexity of the job.
Moving out can often speed up the project timeline and reduce labour costs by allowing uninterrupted access and safer working conditions. However, Edge Construction understands that moving can be disruptive, especially for families. Many of our clients choose to stay in their homes throughout major builds, and we accommodate this by implementing solutions such as setting up a temporary kitchen. You might have to lower your MasterChef skills for a few weeks, but this allows you to continue preparing family meals, even if your usual kitchen is inaccessible.
Our goal is to find a balanced approach that minimizes inconvenience without compromising quality or safety, ensuring your renovation experience is as smooth and comfortable as possible.
We are happy to work whichever way suits you best. We can source and supply everything through our own network of trusted suppliers - which takes the stress and logistics off your plate- or you can choose to source specific items yourself.
Some clients enjoy being hands-on with things like tiles, doors, or window frames, while others prefer us to handle the lot. The key is early communication. If you are sourcing materials, we just need to make sure they are high quality and arrive exactly when we need them so the project stays on track. Whatever you choose, we’ll guide you through the process.
We believe in keeping things transparent and manageable. We take an initial deposit to confirm your quote and secure your project in our calendar. After that, we work on an agreed "staged payment" basis.
This means you pay in instalments as we hit specific milestones throughout the build. It’s a system our customers appreciate because you only pay for work as it is being completed. We have a reputation for being flexible and accommodating, and we will always work with you to ensure the structure is fair. Final payment is due only once the work is finished. We provide clear, professional invoices and accept payment via bank transfer.
Of course! We believe the best way to start any project is with a face-to-face chat at your property. It allows us to see the space, understand your vision, and give you a realistic idea of what is possible. Once we have visited, we can provide a detailed, transparent quote so you know exactly where you stand.
While we are based in Binfield, just outside Bracknell and do a huge amount of work right here in the village, we cover a wide area stretching across Berkshire, Surrey, and Buckinghamshire. We are happy to travel for the right project; we have worked as far afield as London and even the Midlands. If you are unsure if we cover your area, just get in touch and ask! Exciting projects excite us, so... you never know until you ask!
Yes, absolutely. You can see many examples of our previous projects and read testimonials from our clients right here on our website. Beyond that, we are always happy to discuss putting you in contact with our previous customers. We take great pride in our work, and we find that our "happy customers" are our best advertisement, which is why most of our work comes from word of mouth and recommendations. We hope that once your project is finished, you’ll be happy to do the same for us! I'm always blown away as to how much people are willing to help but lots love to show off their stunning 'new' homes!
We specialise in residential transformations. This includes single and double-storey extensions, loft conversions and garage conversions. But, you name it, and we have done it. Garden rooms, basements, Orangeries garages! We have also done bespoke new home builds . We also handle smaller renovations and structural changes. If you have a specific idea in mind that isn't listed on our services page, please ask - with over 20 years of experience, there isn't much we haven't handled!
We know the local planning authorities in Berkshire and Surrey well. We can guide you through the requirements for Building Regulations and, where needed, work alongside your architect or planning consultant to ensure everything is "by the book." Our goal is to make the "red tape" side of things as stress-free as possible for you
The earlier, the better! Ideally, you should get in touch as soon as you start thinking about a project. Even if you don't have final drawings yet, we can offer practical advice on what is structurally possible and give you a "reality check" on your ideas before you spend too much time or money on designs.
Contacting us early also helps with scheduling. Because we are a trusted local team, our diary fills up fast. Getting on our radar early means we can help you plan the timeline and ensure we’re ready to start as soon as your permissions are in place.
We prefer to focus on what we are best at: the structural build, the craftsmanship, and the "heavy lifting." While we deliver your project to a "plaster-finish" or "ready-to-decorate" state, we don't usually handle the final painting and decorating in-house.
Because we have been in the industry for over 20 years, we know some excellent decorators who work to our high standards. We are more than happy to recommend people we trust to put the final "cherry on top" of your new space.
